Gift Roundup: Subscription Boxes

For the DIY crafter

Simply Gifted: Messy Box  Subscription by A Beautiful Mess.

A Beautiful Mess Messy Box
Price: Six-month subscription: $132; 12-month subscription: $240
I've been a huge fan of Elsie and Emma (the brains behind A Beautiful Mess) since they started their blog years ago. I love that they have recently expanded into subscription boxes, online courses, apps and products! Each box is filled with items to scrapbook including stickers, embellishments and special items. Each box is color-coordinated and curated by Elsie and her in-house designer. The possibilities are endless with this box. You can use these items beyond scrapbooking and in many different creative ways!

For the time-crunched friend who wants to cook at home more often

Simply Gifted:  Blue Apron Subscription.

Blue Apron
One week for two people: $60; two weeks for two people: $120; four weeks for two people: $220
Each week, a box will be delivered with all the ingredients and recipes for three meals for two people. You can also choose a family plan for four people at a higher price. Each meal comes out to $9.99 per person. The recipes are seasonally-inspired and come with easy-to-follow instructions. I had a friend send me a free trial for Blue Apron about a year ago. I really enjoyed it.

For the trendy friend that loves to try anything

Simply Gifted:  Birchbox Subscription Box.

Price: $30 for three months; $60 for six months; $110 for one year
There are also men's subscriptions available starting at $60 for a three-month subscription or $110 for a six-month subscription. Each box is filled with five personalized beauty samples. This comes out to $10 a month, which is the cheapest subscription box I've seen yet. I'm thinking about gifting a three-month subscription to one of my long-distance friends! What a fun surprise to receive in the mail each month.

For your art obsessed friend that is having trouble decorating their place

Simply Gifted:  Papirmass Subscription.

Price: Ranges from $8 to $14 per month You can choose to gift a monthly, quarterly or yearly subscription. Papirmass was created by an artistic husband-and-wife duo from Toronto who wanted to create an affordable art subscription. Each delivery of Papirmass is completely different and unique. It has been known to contain postcards, a print, an oversized poster and more!

For that hard-to-shop-for friend or family member

Simply Gifted:  Quarterly Co. Subscription Box.

Price: $25 and up per subscription box; each box comes every three months. (The above box is by Timothy Ferris and is $100 per subscription box.)
I originally discovered Quarterly when trying to find a gift for my dad a couple years ago. My dad is one of the hardest people to shop for. My dad is a big fan of Reddit, so when I saw that the creator, Alexis Ohanian, was a curator, I jumped on it! Quarterly is a subscription service that sends a curated box every three months. There are many different curators (usually celebrities, authors, etc) to choose from based on your recipient's interests. A curator will curate their box with a handful of physical items, that reflects them and their interests. Quarterly likes to focus on "objects that are timeless, practical and exciting, and fly under the radar."

For the adventurous caffeine lover

Simply Gifted:  Craft Coffee Subscription Box.

Craft Coffee
Price: One-month subscription starts at $29.99; three months is $75; six months is $150; one year is $300
This would be a great gift for your coffee-loving friend who would love to try different blends or a friend just getting into drinking coffee and isn't sure what they like. There are three different coffees in each delivery no matter how many months you subscribe. You can personalize which roast they will receive - light, medium or dark!
